According to British human rights organization Reprieve, music is pumped into prison cells at full volume, using songs from Rage Against the Machine and AC/DC to the music of popular children's TV shows Sesame Street and Barney.

The U.S. military believes that musical torture is a non-violent way to create fear without resorting to physical violence, but musicians have created a petition demanding the practice be stopped.

A former Camp Cropper detainee described the musical torture he claimed to have endured in a U.S. prison.

"A lot of Nine Inch Nails, I couldn't begin to tell you how many times I heard Queen's 'We Will Rock You,'" Donald Vance said.
